First Aid - sometimes the old ways are NOT the best

Sometimes the old ways are NOT the best. We used to use hydrogen peroxide to clean out cuts and scrapes on our face and body but today we know its not a good idea.

• Hydrogen Peroxide kills bacteria, the good along with the bad. Healthy bacteria is needed to prevent infections and keep the skin healthy.
• It creates necrotic tissue - that's a fancy way of saying it creates dead flesh.  
• Plus we now know that hydrogen peroxide SLOWS DOWN THE HEALING PROCESS.  Not good.

So what to do instead? 

• Immediately wash with a basic soap and water to clean the cut or scrape. 
• Apply a triple antibiotic ointment, like neosporin.
• Cover it with a sterile bandage.

Keep the cut clean and reapply the ointment and bandage as needed until it is completely healed.

If the cut or scrape turns bright red, hot, painful, oozes pus or gets bigger you must see your Doctor immediately!


What CAN you do with that hydrogen peroxide?

• Clean Kitchen counters with straight or diluted Hydrogen Peroxide
• Clean your loo (bathroom)
• It may bleach clothing so use in place of bleach in your laundry.
