Got an eye on "The perils of contact lenses" article. |
The article "The Perils of Contact Lenses" has disturbing information about the rise of eye infections in contact lens wearer with tips to keep you safe.
One new point I learned was that 1 drop of water on your contact lens can be potentially harmful and dangerous for the health of your eyes. Just ONE drop. I dont think I realized that back when I was wearing contact lenses.
Since ONE drop is so dangerous it follows that soaking your contacts in water is a bad idea. You should always use the recommend lens solution.
At Tuscany Spa Skin & Body Clinic we have saline and contact lens solution available. So if you ever need to remove them before your facial or massage just let us know.
There are 6 additional safety recommendation in addition to:
1. Not soaking them in water, which by the way caused one patient to have a PARASITE EATING HER EYE. eeeeww, thats just creepy..
2. Don't sleep with them - most are not created for extended wear so this can damage the cornea and lead to infection
3. Don't shower or swim with your lenses in - same issue with water-borne bacteria and bugs (I'm creeped out just typing this) Plus public pools can contain traces if fecal and urine matter.
4. Cleanse lenses properly in fresh disinfecting solution every time. Clean and air-dry your storage case daily and replace your storage case every month.
5. Wash your hands - pretty obvious.
6. Don't lick them - seriously, people do this? A dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans and I still don't want my dog licking my eyeball.
7. Be extra careful taking them out - don't catch your lens or eye with your fingernails.
The most bizarre danger from a contact lens: developing a parasite that ate through the patients cornea. The treatment required the patient remain awake for ONE WEEK while doctors treated the problem.
