Our 7 funny, unexpected Halloween film favorites to watch

HAPPY ALL HALLOWS-EVE EVE.

This week I have had Halloween on my mind, from costumes to kids, movies to movie makeup. I am not a fan of scary horror movies, my ability to suspend disbelief works a bit TOO well. (anyone else have trouble with baths after seeing Freddy Krueger/Nightmare on Elmstreet? Seriously it's been YEARS and still I twitch)  But I love fun and funny movies with an element of scary. This is my list of favorites. (With a few extra thrown in because I couldn't resist)

What We Do in the Shadows (2014) Poster
Either image of movie poster OR fun blank spot.

1. What we do in the Shadows

A mock-umentary with a reality show feel. Brilliant and fun. My latest find. A great suggestion from a client. I've been talking about it for weeks.
Love this description: A documentay about 4 flatmates, the camera crew agrees to always wear crusifixs, the flatmats agree not to eat the camera crew.

IMBD Description/Pic: "Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav are vampires who are finding that modern life has them struggling with the mundane - like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts."

2. FIDO

Thanks Alison for this recommendation. Billy Connelly is able to say one word this ENTIRE FILM but he adds hilarious inflection and meaning to his only line "Grrrr." For a comedian that is known for his raunchy humor this is a change of pace. Totally worth seeing.

IMBD Description and PicIn an Earthly world resembling the 1950s, a cloud of space radiation has shrouded the planet, resulting in the dead becoming zombies that desire live human flesh.  Zomcon has created the domestication collar, when activated and placed on a zombie makes the zombie controllable and thus an eternally productive creature within society. Because all dead initially become zombies, the elderly are viewed negatively and suspectly.  In the town of Willard, the Robinsons - father Bill, mother Helen, and adolescent son Timmy - are one family who don't own a zombie as a domestic since Bill is afraid of zombies.

3. Young Frankenstein

Classic Mel Brooks film with a brilliant cast. I didn't understand the Frau Blucher reference when I was a kid. Made it even funnier as an adult

IMBD Description: An American grandson of the infamous scientist, struggling to prove that he is not as insane as people believe, travels to his family's home country and discovers the process that reanimates a dead body.

4. Warm Bodies

Romeo and Juliet and zombies. Hubby said he like that description of it. We both enjoyed it.

IMBD DescriptionAfter a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world.

5. Practical Magic

One I like watching with my sister. This one is for you Mel.

IMBD Description The wry, comic romantic tale follows the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian, as they struggle to use their hereditary gift for practical magic to overcome the obstacles in discovering true love.

6. Knights of BadAssdom

Hubby got me into this one,. He knows I am a Peter Dinklage fan from before his turn on game of thrones. Pokes a little fun at LARP'ers but its done with love.

IMBD Description: Live-action role players conjure up a demon from Hell by mistake and they must deal with the consequences.

7. Care Bears The Movie

This movie is forever etched in my brain as a scary movie. I took my kid sister to the movies, we settled in to watch a cute kids film. Or so we thought.

The animated intro was a bit dark but it showed a young boy energetic to get out the door. We see the van stop, back open and a creepy old man toss out a pile of magazines in front of the excited boy. Then we pan to the magazine title (and movie title) ... CREEP SHOW 2. What the fig?

Most of the parents abruptly got up, dragging confused children with them. On screen it looked like someone ripped out the film.

Care Bears did eventually start up but I have absolutely no memory of it. All that remains is the terrifying images of CREEP SHOW. Do you think they will make Creep Show Care Bears? My hubby would watch it.

IMBD DescriptionThe Care Bears watch over a young brother and sister who have lost their trust in humanity. Meanwhile an evil wizard wishes to cover the Earth in concrete.
