I can answer what is the greatest obstacle for me. Perfectionism. Not striving towards perfect but expecting it in all I do, especially those things I love. Wring this blog is on my perfectionism hot list. My childhood desire to write was hampered by being a child with no writing experience. Everything came out imperfect. My folks loved my stories, but that was their job as my parents. At school my classmates had better stories. Plus the instructor critiqued mine rather than falling on her sword swooning because she would never again read any thing so beautiful as my story.
Taking on the goal last year of making my blog fantastic and useful while blogging consistently was a big leap of faith. Its still not perfect. One of the biggest challenges is that I'm in the process of figuring out my blogging "voice". Years of European and international school education taught me solid English skills but that means I write in a formal style simply out of habit. Finding my conversational style or blogger-sational style, (hey looky at me coining a word) is taking effort and continues to be a challenge.
Committing myself NaBloPoMo and a daily blog is part of that effort. This week has been fun as I struggle to answer the prompts. I enjoy the creative process behind it, less so the editing. I create, edit, recreate, edit, repeat, improve my skills a bit, publish and look forward to feedback.
Your feedback is a huge part of this process. Writers without readers is akin to Actors without an audience. Feedback is as essential to the growth of an artist as it is a blogger. Your comments, suggestions and critiques helps me find and fine tune my own blogger-sational tone. Thank you in advance.
One final note, thank heavens for the internet. I have discovered so many resources on the web. There is a wealth of knowledge available and many sites on the art of blogging, one of which lead me to NaBloPoMo. The web has sparked my excitement for this genre of writing into which I have thrown myself.
Now its your turn to join in the discussion. Leave your response in the comments.
What do you see as your greatest obstacle?
Thanks for reading this and let me know you stopped by. It is such a thrill for me, you could probably hear me "sqweee" with delight.
